One way the NHL attempts to prevent diving in the league is to call out repeat offers. The public shaming comes in the form of a fine system.

No one likes being labeled a diver.

The NHL continued to send a message to players by handing down a $2000 fine former Red Wings player (2021-22 and 2022-23) Oskar Sundqvist under Rule 64. The Swedish forward now plays for St. Louis.

That rule is designed to bring attention to players (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties. Fines are assessed to players and head coaches on a graduated scale.

Sundqvist got a warning after an incident flagged by NHL Hockey Operations during NHL Game No. 337 at NY Rangers on Nov. 25. His second citation, which triggered the $2,000 fine, was issued for an incident at 5:27 of the third period during NHL Game No. 734 at Utah on Jan. 18. Utah forward Kevin Stenlund was given a minor interference penalty on the play.

Another former Red Wings player Sam Gagner (2019-20 to 2021-22) has signed with the AHL Belleville Senators with the hope of landing an NHL contract.

The Red Wings All Quarter-Century Team pays homage to Detroit’s late 1990s stars.

Where will defenseman Jeff Petry fit when he comes back from injury? Bob Duff offers his thoughts.

The Red Wings penalty killing unitplayed a key role in Detroit’s last win against Montreal. We haven’t said that very much this season.

Cam Talbot is expected to start in goal for the Red Wings today when they play a home game against the Tampa Bay Lightning (7 p.m. ET, FanDuel Sports Network). The Lightning, in third place in the Atlantic Division, are six points ahead of Detroit in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Lightning beat the Red Wings 5-1 last week in Tampa.

Colorado: Aarif Deen writes in a paywall story that the Avalanche took a serious risk by trading Mikko Rantanen.
