Happening Now: Caleb Williams Refused $168 million deals to Bears…

The football world was waiting to see if USC Trojan QB Caleb Williams would declare for the draft. The news finally came on the final day that upperclassmen were eligible to declare.

The rumors about where Williams would land have gone on for months, with many prematurely stating that he would likely end up being drafted by the Chicago Bears. The Bears currently own the #1 pick in the draft, so it makes all the sense in the world that they would draft Williams.

Williams is a #1 overall pick, and his talent likely has many teams angling to find a way to trade up for his services.

The Bears are in a precarious situation though. They currently have Justin Fields, who isn’t the worst QB in the league at all. Fields has showcased elite skills at times, though he has not panned out the way that the Bears were likely hoping for.

Fields would be a huge trade candidate for many of the other QB-hungry teams that don’t have a high enough pick or the capital to get one of the other options available in the draft.

The Bears could also double down by trading Fields for more draft capital, taking Williams at #1, and truly building a roster around him that would send them back into NFC supremacy.

None of this is news, as it has been stated multiple times for months now. However, the college and NFL world received a huge update this morning that current USC QB and senior offensive analyst coach Kliff Kingsbury was set to interview for the Bears offensive coordinator position.

Kingsbury is a former NFL head coach, serving in the role for the Arizona Cardinals before heading back to college to work with the USC Trojans.

Kingsbury is directly responsible for Williams having an amazing year, and one that nearly netted him a back-to-back Heisman Trophy win.

The Bears may have already had their mind set on bringing in Williams, but they could also put the young QB’s mind at ease by reuniting him with a coach he already trusts.

Kingsbury returning to the NFL makes total sense considering his previous HC experience. The Bears need a brand-new staff, and why not bring him to guide Williams even more at the pro level?

If there was ever a doubt that the Bears were going to select Williams, that should be wiped away with the news that Kingsbury is interviewing for the OC position. This would mean that the Bears would need to offer him the job, which has yet to be confirmed.
