Indiana Eyes Texas Tech’s Federiko Federiko to Bolster Frontcourt

The Indiana Hoosiers are actively pursuing 6’11” Texas Tech transfer Federiko Federiko as they aim to solidify their interior defense for the upcoming season. With Payton Sparks transferring out and Malik Reneau testing NBA waters, Indiana has a critical gap in the paint—and Federiko, who averaged 7.1 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game, fits the mold of a rim protector Coach Darian DeVries is targeting.

Federiko, originally from Finland, also brings international experience and strong pick-and-roll fundamentals. The Hoosiers see him as a player who can provide immediate help, especially in the physically demanding Big Ten. Sources within the program describe him as their “top portal priority.”

The buzz around Federiko’s possible arrival has energized the IU fanbase, who were hoping for defensive upgrades after last season’s struggles. With Xavier Johnson and Trey Galloway returning, adding a dominant inside presence like Federiko could make Indiana a dark-horse contender in the conference.

In recent interviews, Federiko emphasized the importance of “finding the right fit” and has scheduled a visit to Bloomington next week. Should he commit, expect the Hoosiers to shift into a high-low post system with renewed confidence and defensive toughness.
