LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – With time to reflect on the magnitude of McNeese baseball’s 7–6 win over LSU on Tuesday night, head coach Justin Hill was proud of his team’s ability to show resolve after a tough weekend against Kansas by responding with a victory over one of the top teams in the country, snapping LSU’s 16-game winning streak.
“Anytime you beat LSU, especially at their place, it’s a big win,” Hill said. “A big win for the program, the team, and our players because I know what type of impact a win like that can have on individuals from something they remember.”
“It’s a big deal,” he added. “Again, really happy for our guys.”
After a rocky start to the season, Hill hopes this could change the trajectory of their year and give them a boost of confidence as they head into conference play against Nicholls on Friday.
“What do we do? Is this the high point of the season? The answer is no,” Hill said. “I’m not going to allow that to happen.”
He emphasized that while the win is meaningful, it cannot become the peak of the season.
“But is that going to be the high point for some of these guys mentally? It can’t be,” Hill said. “It’s meant to be enjoyed. We’ve got practice today. We need to have a good practice and recover.”
“Again, big win — not going to minimize that,” he continued. “It’s important and does have a chance to supercharge our confidence in some kind of way.”
McNeese moves to 3–5 on the season, while LSU drops to 8–1. The Cowboys will return to action this weekend as they travel to Thibodaux to face Nicholls and begin Southland Conference play.
