5 offseason questions for Texas A&M: Will Aggies’ transfer class make an impact?

A&M looks to build upon an 8-5 campaign in coach Mike Elko’s debut season in Aggieland.

What started as a successful dive into coach Mike Elko’s first year at the helm of Texas A&M football in 2024 sank to a disappointing finish with an 8-5 showing and a defeat in the Las Vegas Bowl.

The Aggies had high hopes in the first season of the 12-team College Football Playoff, but there are a number of reasons for those postseason aspirations to persist into 2025.

Reed burst onto the scene in leading A&M to a win at Florida in his first career start and a comeback victory over top-10 LSU after taking over in the second half. The starting job was Reed’s for good down the stretch, although the Aggies dropped all but one of their final five games.

Entering spring football, Reed looks like A&M’s unrivaled starting quarterback, with Miles O’Neill and UAB seventh-year transfer Jacob Zeno behind him. Reed exhibited plenty of promise throughout his redshirt freshman season, passing for 1,864 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 547 yards and seven scores. He also reminded us that he’s still young, with six interceptions in the Aggies’ final five games.

With a pair of SEC Freshman of the Week honors to his name, Reed’s dual-threat ability offers enormous potential going forward. If he uses the offseason to continue to develop and strengthen his 6-2, 180-pound frame, Reed could move into the conference’s upper echelon of quarterbacks.
