When it comes to college football recruiting, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are one of the hottest teams in the country.
Marcus Freeman and company landed seven commitments in the month of June, and just six days into July, have already landed another two. The latest addition to Notre Dame’s class also happens to be the son of one of the greatest NFL wide receivers of all time, Larry Fitzgerald.
On Saturday, three-star wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald announced his commitment to play for the Fighting Irish, choosing Notre Dame over programs such as Stanford, Clemson and UCLA.
While his father expressed how proud he was shortly after the commitment in an interview, the former Arizona Cardinals star took to X on Sunday just to reiterate how proud he was.
This past season, the younger Fitzgerald recorded 52 catches for 720 yards and nine touchdowns, according to 247Sports.
He also joins a Notre Dame class that features a couple of other sons of former NFL stars.
Just one day before him, the son of former Green Bay Packers star tight end Jermichael Finley, Kaydon, announced his commitment to the Fighting Irish. Thomas Davis Jr., who is the son of former Carolina Pantherslinebacker Thomas Davis Sr., will also join Fitzgerald and Finley in South Bend.
Following their strong start to July, the Fighting Irish have the No. 4 recruiting class in the country, trailing only Texas A&M, Georgia, and USC.
If college football fans hadn’t felt old yet, this next generation of athletes may fix that.
