BYU football will honor 20 seniors on Senior Nnight in their final regular season game against Houston.
For this group, it’s been a journey of perseverance, growth and leadership that has carried the Cougars to an impressive 9-2 record in year two in the Big 12.
“These guys are awesome,” said coach Kalani Sitake. “I love coaching these guys.”
Of the 20 seniors, 17 have seen significant time on the field throughout the year. This team has relied on the senior class that went 5-7 last year and struggled in the first year of the Big 12.
Senior Connor Pay spoke on the senior group that leads the team this year.
“We’re a group regardless of how things were going we always showed up and we never backed down,” said Pay.
This year, BYU was projected to only win four-and-a-half games in the preseason projections.
“They’ve (the seniors) helped us get to where we are,” said quarterback Jake Retzlaff.
With a chance on the table to still make the Big 12 Championship, this senior class is not finished.
Another senior, defensive end Isaiah Bagnah, shared his thoughts on the upcoming Senior Night.
“You never think it’s going to happen, this is my 6th season of college football, and this game is going to mean a lot,” he said. “Everything we have prepared for … has led up to this moment.”
