During his weekly radio segment on Wednesday night, Mark Pope shared details about a memorable moment from the Kentucky Wildcats’ Black Friday win over Georgia State.
Since he couldn’t stay to sign autographs, Pope decided to treat fans by letting them use his wife Lee Anne’s credit card to buy ice cream at Taylor Belle’s. He also spoke highly of the ice cream during his postgame remarks last Friday following Kentucky’s game against Georgia State.
“The word on the street is, here in Rupp Arena, we have the best ice cream in the world,” Pope said. “So, Mrs. Lee Anne dropped her credit card off at the ice cream stand right up here, so it’s on me tonight. Go help yourselves. Get some ice cream on the way out. Enjoy it, and thank you guys for coming here.”
Following Pope’s gesture, fans flocked to grab free ice cream, creating a line that wrapped around Rupp Arena.
Fast-forward to Wednesday night, when Mark Pope humorously shared the financial impact Kentucky fans had on his bank account. When Tom Leach asked if the total cost of the ice cream exceeded $2,000, Pope cheerfully confirmed that the bill was well over that amount.
Yeah, we’ll go with the over on that one,” Pope joked. “I thought Rupp was going to give me a little discount on the ice cream. They did not! But it was worth it. It was worth it.”
With the cost of ice cream at Taylor Belle’s priced at $7 each, it’s no surprise that the total quickly climbed past $2,000 when fans took advantage of Mark Pope’s generous offer on Black Friday.
Over 285 servings of ice cream were likely purchased at that price, showing just how eager Kentucky fans were to indulge in the postgame treat.
