The Detroit Lions are gearing up for the most important game for their franchise in the last 30 years. On Sunday the Lions will take on the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship. The Lions are looking for their first Super Bowl berth in team history. It has certainly been a magical season for them thus far.
However, just days before their matchup against the 49ers, the Lions announced some pretty interesting quarterback injury news.
The Detroit Lions Announce Weird Quarterback Injury Prior To NFC Championship Matchup Against The San Francisco 49ers
According to a statement by the Lions, rookie quarterback Hendon Hooker is listed as questionable to play the 49ers due to a tooth injury. Per the Lions injury report, Hooker did not participate in Friday’s practice. Hooker was a full participant in the Lions first two practices of the week.
Having a third quarterback available to play in the NFC Championship Game is important for the Lions. The 49ers’ injuries to Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson in last season’s NFC Championship Game caused the league to change their rule on quarterbacks. NFL teams are now allowed to have an emergency quarterback on the 53-man roster that doesn’t count against the team’s 46-man game-day active roster.
The Lions are coming into the NFC Championship Game with starting quarterback Jared Goff and backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater healthy. However, that could change quickly against a ferocious 49ers defense.
