The Detroit Lions boast one of the league’s most complete wide receivers, Amon-Ra St. Brown, in Jared Goff’s supporting cast but believe that one of the offense’s young playmakers is ready to take a big step forward in his development in 2024.

After flashing the potential of his tantalizing upside during his second season in 2023 by catching 24 passes for 354 yards with a pair of touchdowns, while flashing the ability to take the top off opposing secondaries in the deep passing game, Jameson Williams could play a vital role in the Lions’ success in 2024.

As the Lions look to become even more explosive this fall, Williams has arrived this summer looking capable of taking on an expanded role in his third NFL season.

“He’s taken it to another level in the springtime and so far here in camp,” Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson Johnson recently told reporters. “In the passing game making explosive plays but he also wants to be a dynamic blocker.”

For Williams’ part, he has lofty expectations for himself, not just in 2024, but for his entire career.
“I expect a lot more. I want to be the best to ever play the game at my position and I’m just getting started,” Williams said, via ESPN. “I feel like I’ve got a long way to go. I’ve got a lot of stuff to work on and it’s just that. I just keep my head down and keep working. I know I can be better every day at a little something.”
There are going to be opportunities for Williams down the field, especially given the attention defensive backs and defensive coordinators must pay St. Brown, and it sure sounds like the Lions believe the 23-year-old is primed for a breakout, primed to make the most of those chances.
“So far we haven’t really seen anything that he can’t do,” Johnson said of Williams.
