ue to the disappointing conclusion of the 2023 Detroit Lions season, fans missed what would have been a rematch of their Week 1 showdown against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. The initial encounter, which saw the Lions secure a narrow 21-20 victory at Arrowhead Stadium on September 7, promised an exciting follow-up. As the Chiefs continue preparing to defend their title against the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday, several players have expressed their surprise at the Lions’ failure to progress further in the playoffs. Michigan-connected Kansas City Chiefs players stunned by the Detroit Lions exit…
The Michigan Wolverines not only have to replace championship-winning head coach Jim Harbaugh, but they also have to find someone to take over for defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. After leading the nation’s top scoring defense a season ago, Minter followed Harbaugh to the Los Angeles Chargers. It creates a big void for new head coach Sherrone Moore and the defending champions One name that has popped up recently is former New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports reports that Martindale is drawing interest from the Wolverines as well as NFL teams. Martindale,…
An old office building on the outskirts of the Arlington Park property met the same fate as the demolished racetrack buildings, with an eye toward the same property tax savings the Chicago Bears are trying to achieve. Demolition crews were seen this week picking apart the three-story, 43,800-square-foot building on the northwest corner of Euclid Avenue and Salt Creek Lane. The site is in the shadow of the 326-acre former racetrack property now owned by the NFL franchise. Marketing materials from Crosstown Real Estate Advisors, owner of the 3025 Salt Creek Lane site, include maps showing its proximity…
The NFL draft is still a ways away and notoriously hard to predict, but the consensus right now is that quarterbacks Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels will be the top three picks on April 25th. If the Vikings can’t trade up into that top three, they’ll be left to consider the three second-tier QB options: J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix Jr., and Bo Nix. McCarthy is a fascinating prospect whose profile is rather different from the other two. Penix and Nix are fifth or sixth-year seniors who will be 24 when their rookie seasons begin. They were both Heisman…
The Pittsburgh Steelers are leaving the door open on a potential offseason QB trade, according to team president Art Rooney II. The offense experienced a number of issues in 2023, many of which revolved around the position. The Steelers saw a carousel of passers line up in the backfield last season due to both injury and inconsistent play. Kenny Pickett began the year as the starter, but he’d be one of three players to take snaps under center. The struggles were season-long for the offense, which ranked as one of the NFL’s worst in terms of scoring. Pittsburgh…
Former Saints third-round pick Tre’Quan Smith is on to a new team, as he has reportedly signed a reserve/future deal with the Detroit Lions. Smith reunites with Dan Campbell and moves on from Denver after spending last season on the practice squad. He only played in one game for the Broncos after joining them on Oct. 3. Smith’s training camp was an odd one for the Saints last August, as he was missing in action and no one really knew what was happening. He even made the final roster and was placed on injured reserve on Sep. 9, but was…
Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II has had a lot to say about the quarterback position over the last couple days. Yesterday, while speaking to Bob Pompeani, Rooney said that the Steelers “aren’t closing the door” when it comes to making a move at quarterback. RELATED Steelers not closing the door on trading for QB Now, speaking to Andrew Stockey, it appears Rooney is walking back that statement, now saying it is unlikely the Steelers will trade for a quarterback. “I don’t want to create a lot of speculation out there that we’re going out to…
After spending his first four years with the Buffalo Bills, wide receiver Gabe Davis is expected to be headed for free agency. The same can be said of Darnell Mooney and the Chicago Bears, who are likely to part ways after four seasons. NFL.com’s Kevin Patra listed one offseason move for all 30 teams not competing in the Super Bowl, and for the Bears, it’s simple: add playmakers on offense. He listed Davis and Arizona Cardinals WR Marquise Brown as two WRs Chicago should pursue to pair with top wideout DJ Moore. Moore is a stud the…
Hours after speculation arose that the Suns were interested in Utah Jazz forward Simone Fontecchio, the 28-year-old was traded to the Detroit Pistons for a 2024 2nd-round pick. During his time with the Jazz this season, Fontecchio averaged 8.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Additionally, he maintained a close to .400 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. Initial reports suggested that the Suns and the Celtics were the two teams interested in Fontecchio, making the Pistons’ acquisition of him somewhat surprising. While the Suns have yet to make a move with the trade deadline looming around…
The Phoenix Suns want as much help from their supporting cast as they can get. They have limited options for how they can get improvements, but that hasn’t stopped them from trying. The Athletic’s Tony Jones reported that the Suns have their eye on an affordable target: Simone Fontecchio. Jones reported the Suns’ interest in Fontecchio but added that they’re not alone. “Utah’s starting small forward has emerged as a serious trade target for two contending teams, according to multiple league sources: the Phoenix Suns and the Boston Celtics,” Jones wrote in a February 6 story. “Both teams…
