‘I wouldn’t trade him’: Arkansas QB Taylen Green has proven himself to Sam Pittman despite growing pains
FAYETTEVILLE — In his first real test as the Arkansas football team’s starting quarterback, Taylen Green flashed Saturday in a 39-31 double-overtime loss at Oklahoma State.
From a yardage standpoint, Green had one of the best games by a Razorback quarterback in program history. He threw 26-for-45 (57.8%) with 416 passing yards. Without sack yardage factored, he added 104 rushing yards.
Green’s passing yardage was the fourth-most ever recorded by an Arkansas player and the most since Brandon Allen threw for 442 yards during the Razorbacks’ 53-52 overtime victory at Ole Miss in 2015.
Green was responsible for 477 total yards, the second-most in program history behind Tyler Wilson’s 481 yards against Texas A&M in 2011.
His 61 net rushing yards were the most ever by an Arkansas quarterback who also passed for at least 400 yards.
Green largely performed to the expectations Arkansas coach Sam Pittman and offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino set when they pursued the Boise State transfer in the portal.
“He’s playing his tail off,” Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said Monday. “He’s just a fantastic player. I wouldn’t trade him. For anybody out there [who] wants to trade, I’m not trading.”
The perception of individual performances can change drastically with a game’s result. Despite leading the Arkansas offense to 648 total yards, Green was involved in some critical mistakes.
