CM Punk: Celebrating Chicago Blackhawks’ 2013 Stanley Cup Win Was One Of The Greatest Nights Of My Life
CM Punk reflects on celebrating the Chicago Blackhawks’ 2013 Stanley Cup victory with the team.
CM Punk famously took a sabbatical from WWE after his match with The Undertaker at WWE WrestleMania 29. During his time away from the square circle, he spent a lot of time watching the Chicago Blackhawks work their way into the finals of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Blackhawks actually defeated the Boston Bruins for the Cup eight days after Punk returned to WWE at WWE Payback 2013. Still, Punk got to celebrate with the team.
Punk spoke about this during a recent appearance on the Rich Eisen Show. He revealed that he did get a chance to hold the Cup over his head, but didn’t want to divulge too much about the celebration outside of the fact that it was one of the greatest experiences of his life.
“In 2013, when the Hawks won in Boston, they flew back to Chicago, and I had a whole bunch of friends on the on the team, [Adam] Burish, [Patrick Sharp] Sharpie, Duncan Keith, they they invited me out, and I spent the entire night out with them, and it was one of the greatest nights of my life. It’s just insane.”
Asked to elaborate on the “insanity,” Punk responded, “I’d rather not. It was only about twelve years ago. So I think the statue of limitations is still in effect on certain things. So I’d like to just say it was a really good time, and I’m possibly the only person who is there that remembers everything.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Punk spoke about the full circle nature of his rivalry with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. Read more here.
