Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff blames still Campbell for NFC Championship Game Loss

“I’m not surprised,” said Goff in a one-on-one interview. “It was a fun year. It was a great year for us and unfortunately, we came up a couple games short of our ultimate goal. And we were able to build a pretty good foundation this year that can carry us for quite some time.”

The Lions held a 24-7 lead over the home team, the San Francisco 49ers, in the NFC Championship Game. However, a couple of questionable fourth down calls by head coach Dan Campbell and some mishaps led to the Niners scoring 27 unanswered points and an eventual win.

Despite the loss, Goff has no regrets in what happened during the game.

“It is what it is,” says Goff. “Sometimes it doesn’t go your way and you got to live with it. Of course you look back and watch the tape and there’s a million different plays that you’d like to have back or do differently and that’s how it is with every game win or lose. Unfortunately, we didn’t get it done in that game and it stings and it will sting for a little while. But we’ll use it to motivate us going forward.”

Goff — who was speaking on behalf of his partnership with Jared, the well-known jewelry company — detailed how he became involved with them and how it was a riff on the company’s well-known slogan, “he went to Jared,” from the company’s commercials.

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is coming off arguably the best year of his career.

The 29-year-old is the leader of the resurgent Lions and he recently came within a possession of leading a franchise that hadn’t won a postseason game since 1991 to the Super Bowl. It would have been the team’s first Super Bowl appearance and first appearance in a title game since 1957.

Goff — who just posted career-highs in completion percentage and completions — discussed what it was like leading the Lions to their best season in over three decades and coming up within a game of playing in Super Bowl LVIII.
