Tennis legend Serena Williams dropped a bombshell yesterday, revealing her plans to return to professional tennis. The 23-time Grand Slam champion, who retired in 2022, has been training secretly and aims to make her comeback at the 2025 Australian Open.
“I’ve missed the competition,” Williams said in an exclusive interview. “I’m excited to prove myself once again.” Williams’s return sends shockwaves through the tennis world, leaving fans and rivals eagerly anticipating her highly anticipated comeback.
Williams, 42, had been enjoying retirement, focusing on her family and business ventures. However, the itch to compete remained. “I’ve been watching tennis, and I feel like I can still do this,” Williams said. “I’m not done yet.”
Williams’s coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, confirmed her return. “Serena’s been training hard, and she’s hungry for success,” Mouratoglou said. “She’s got the fire in her belly again.”
Williams’s comeback raises questions about her potential impact on the women’s game. “Serena’s presence will elevate the sport,” said WTA CEO Steve Simon. “Her return is a game-changer.”
Williams will face stiff competition from younger players, including world No. 1, Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek. “I’m not worried about the competition,” Williams said. “I’m worried about being the best version of myself.”
Schedule:
- Williams will begin her comeback at the 2025 Australian Open (January 20-February 2)
- She will also compete in the Indian Wells Masters (March 10-23) and Miami Open (March 24-April 6)
